i’m going to show a couple incomplete things just since i haven’t uploaded for a couple days.

daliphant

this first one was inspired by dali’s famous elephants. thought i’d try to give it a spin. this isn’t for anyone in particular, so i guess its ‘for sale.’ if interested, get at vass@ladisputemusic.com.

ladistralia-color

next up is the australian tour poster for my band, la dispute. designed as a 2 color screen print and i’m really hoping it is screen printed down there. i had some issues with text and the logos at the bottom, but they were fixed pretty simply with a tablet after scanning the drawing.

duxcopy

here are a couple ducks for another work in progress. working on a shirt for a band called anstice and they asked for something blue, so in billy madison fashion, i thought of ducks. obviously isn’t finished, going to add some background scenery and text.
fixtspelling

heres a shirt design for a michigan band called the mastodon infantry. inspired by a classic optical illusion with an elephant. not sure the illusion carried over as well as i had hoped, but i still think its rad.

wonderyearsmock

last one for today is a mockup of a shirt design i’m doing for the wonder years european tour. its not quite finished, i’m going to add some lyrics to it to make it seem less like someone drowning and more like someone trying not to drown.

as usual, i’m open for work. i’ve got a couple designs on my plate (bears, native, no sleep records), but i could always use a couple more. contact me at vass@ladisputemusic.com.

I digitized and colored the mouthful of birds design that I uploaded last week, but I didn’t want to have an update with just one picture in it, so I’m including all the designs I made for La Dispute’s upcoming summer tours. There is also a Native shirt in their for our Canadian tour together so we would have matching shirts.
Anyways, here they are.

here are a couple things i did at the airport or right before the trip. ld got asked to do a bigger tour this fall so i wanted to do all new designs for it, a couple are here. they aren’t quite finished but pretty close. the pencil sketch with the flower and candle is also for that tour, and the pencil sketch of the fast food employee is for native. i’ll also be uploading some stuff soon (within a few days if all goes well) that i’ll be working on for australian friends Quiet Steps and To The North. Also, fellow aussie Ruined Lighthouse Records, don’t think I forgot about you. I finished your design on the plane and am waiting for you to approve before I show it off here.

Sketches July 26, 2009

Here are just some inks of things I’m working on. Looking forward to digitizing them and getting them cleaned up.
These first two, an owl and a group of mice, are going to be together for a to the north shirt. they’ll be seperated by text. i drew them on seperate pieces of paper so i could draw them bigger and resize them in photoshop, so here they are as seperate scans.

Up next is a design for quiet steps. Its goin to be a 2 color tshirt print, black and neon green on white, and i’m also going to paint it digitally for their record art.

lastly are a couple lighthouses i sketched for a la dispute shirt. the pencily one was a bigger attempt at the inked one which was my initial idea but drawn very small. plan to paint it in watercolors then bitmap it for screen printing.

Shirt Designs

a couple things i’m pretty proud of that i did, mostly this week.

also, a couple of the shirts i designed for our band are now available at www.hellfishfamily.com to purchase. a few more are on their way in the webstore this week.

former thieves are the best band around right now in the middle west and i’m stoked to see that design get printed. if you don’t believe me, watch this:

Former Thieves - Dead Horses Are Turned Into Glue (LIVE) from Tim Dodd on Vimeo.

Paintin

Mostly paintings, not a lot of digital or drawing this week.

In this nautical one, I had forgot to color one of the tentacles when i took the picture, but i fixed it since.

this second one is 6 feet 4 inches wide. for album art for a band called a breath beyond broken, there was a jewel case mockup in my last update but heres the whole painting. weird to go from a 6 feet board to a 5 inch cd case.

updated bledfest poster, a work in progress

commission piece on cabinet door

show poster for our first hometown show in half a year TOMORROW

lastly, tour starts next saturday. i’m stoked because ive been in grand rapids too long, 2 months almost haha. we come back apr 7, we leave again apr 20, come back may 24, leave for europe june 4, and come back june 26. in short, i’ll be very busy until july. if you are looking to have work done, they have to be paid for by next saturday, so contact me at adamxvass@gmail.com QUICKLY and we can work something out.

Update From The Road

I’m in a hot backroom in Atlanta Georgia and feeling motivated to show off some things I’ve drawn/painted on this tour. Before I do, I’d like to link you to a few blogs that are far better at recounting tour events than mine:

My band, La Dispute, has a website where we post pictures/videos/whatever from the road. It is usually pretty well kept. It is located at http://www.ladisputemusic.com.

My friend, room mate, and now tour manager also recounts tales of adventure on his new blog, Unicorn Blood. He probably has enough embarassing pictures of me by now to bury me, so I’m linking to him in an effort to keep him happy. http://colinmccarthy.wordpress.com.

Lastly, Therefore I Am’s tour manager Erin takes a million photos then takes a long time to sort through them and posts the winners on her website http://erinirerin.blogspot.com/. If she doesn’t link back to me, I’m going to be pissed. If she doesn’t read http://www.BUDSNSUDS.org I will be way more pissed, I bet her a slurpee date that its funny, and I know its funny.

On with the pictures. Peep these and leave me feedback if you feel compelled. Thank you for continuing to read my blog when sometimes I fail to update it regularly.
